Every 100 years, citizens of a remote village partake in a feast celebrating the eight ancient kings who protected the city from ruin. In texts, murals, and statues, these Kings are depicted as immortal beings, but no one has ever actually seen them. In a mountain temple lies eight thrones surrounding a giant feast table, set before a throne made of bone where villagers place offerings of food, wine, money, and blood. Paola Kadek has questioned this ceremony for as long as she can remember, specifically the sacrifices. Through her personal research she stumbles upon the reality that these Kings were part of a dark covenant between themselves and a long forgotten God. In order to save the city, they sacrificed themselves to the God’s hunger, trapping their souls within the thrones and thus binding the God to the mortal plane and pausing its destruction. But the offerings are not enough anymore, and the God is getting hungrier and restless. Upon discovering her research, the Village is in an uproar, citing her heresy and naming her the next sacrifice to the Feast of the Withered Kings. Now, she must discover the truth behind the covenant and lay the God to rest forever before she is consumed
